  1. The sand in these photos has been mined in Bay
City and Maiden Rock, WI for over 50 years and was originally used for metal conditioning or sand blasting.
It is also used by children in sand boxes for play. This local rock has found a new use in
the recovery of oil and natural gas deposits to help release these deposits by injecting the sand under extreme pressure to frac the rock deposits or fracture the rock. The sand stays in these cracks in the deposit, so the oil or natural gas can flow to the well head.
This technology is revolutionizing the energy business worldwide, in layers of shale deposits.
The recovery of this oil will make the US independent of foreign oil imports within a few years. It will help to create jobs in the energy sector all over the US.
Is energy independence a good outcome for all of us?.
